YouTube (a Google owned company) has recently indicated that it will be phasing out support for the browser Internet Explorer version 6.
The online video website is pointing to the fact that ‘modern’ browsers like Google Chrome, Internet Explorer 8 and Firefox 3.5 are now widely available, highly functional, much improved and more secure alternatives for web users.
A couple of newsletters ago Blue Square indicated the time was right for our clients (in their Browser Wars article) to move away from IE6 and (at the very least) upgrade to IE7, IE8, Firefox 3.5 or Chrome. With YouTube leading the way in phasing out support for IE6 we can safely assume that the best of the rest will follow suit and soon web users on IE6 will begin to miss out on site functionality.
Although we will continue to support IE6 in the short term we now urge any clients still on IE6 to upgrade now!
