Blue Square Sponsor Broughty Ferry United Youth Football Club

Blue Square Design recently sponsored the Broughty Ferry United Youth Football Club which has two teams in the Dundee Area Under 9's league.

Jim Patrick, Nial Chapman and Paula Donnelly represented Blue Square at the handover of the new strip on Sunday 2nd April at Gillies Park, Barnhill where the boys were playing against Dundee Villa.

The boys did not have a team strip previously and were enthused with the attractive black and white striped kit. Hopefully this sponsorship will give the boys a boost and help attract other players.

The standard of play was very impressive. There are 7 and 8 year olds playing in teams of seven, 20 mins each way, with three substitutes. All 10 players are guaranteed 20 mins football. The BUYFC boys are well coached and stay in their positions, playing as a team.

The 1st team unfortunately lost their match (they don't normally lose) to a late goal which we thought was off-side, but there is no off-side in the under 9's! Our boys did, however score the goal of the game - a neat chip over the goalie, a direct copy of Nani's score for Manchester United a fortnight previously!

The 2nd team, in which Paula Donnelly's son Brandon plays, won their match.

In a recent Scottish Government report Henry McLeish concluded that £500m is required to lift Scottish football back to the glory days.

Hopefully our £250 sponsorship can go some way at grass roots level!
